Louie Bellson 1924-2009 The music world has lost a great mentor, and friend as Louie Bellson passed away on Valentine’s Day at age the age of 84. The cause of death is still unknown at this time. On January 28, Bellson had been released from a hospital, where he had been recovering from a broken hip, and was reportedly undergoing physical therapy as part of a rehabilitation regimen. Adler was born in New York City in 1915 and grew up during the Depression. His father gave him his first drum at the age of 13, and before receiving any formal instruction he was offered his first drumming gig at age 15 in Belmar, New Jersey.
