Does anyone use a drum riser with an 18" bass drum. I'm having major issues with my Gretsch Catalina Club bass drum using a Pacific pedal. The beater is not close enough to the head, having to swing way over 90 degrees to hit the head. In addition, there beater rolls/bounces off the head on single notes... I've spent hours trying to adjust the beater, pedal and height/angle of the bass drum. Raising the spurs helps, but not that much...
Has anyone else had this problem? Know of a better alternative riser?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Notice how the kick drum legs are extended out all the way and the drum is way off the ground. This is the only way I could get the beaters to attack the kick drum at a relatively 12 O'Clock position. The drum has to be angled in a very funny way. Be sure to check your beater heights and the stability of the drum. Put a sandbag or a weight in front of the drum if you have to!

It's the riser riser/adapter connected to the bass drum hoop.

Hey Jeff, I have one of those catalina 18" kicks.. when you say "Riser" are you talking about the platform you set your drums up on, or the adapter that rises the kick drum up so the pedal can reach? Also, have you adjusted your beater height, etc for the 18" Kick? If you are still having issues, let me know, I'll pull out the 18" kick later and set it up so we can see what is happening.
