Just found this site today and thought I would join. I played the drums on a very regular basis from 1984 to 1998. I took about 10 years off (not by choice). I joined a band last year because I really wanted to get back to playing music. It's been a joy getting back in a band...and somewhat frustrating just knowing that I wasn't able to do the stuff I used to do. But, I am getting my chops back (slowly) and just glad I'm playing music again!! Once it's in your blood....you can't get it out!!

Did the same myself (twelve years without a kit, but learned some guitar and kept working on the hands the whole time - practice pad, hand drum, whatever!). Now I'm back playing in a jazz group, and it's a blast! Now I have to play in odd time, some funky stuff, some bop stuff, it's so challenging! Plus, I severed my Achilles tendon twice a few years back, so my bass drum chops aren't what they used to be; what the hell, it's a blast anyway! Wow...severed your Achilles tendon!! I can imagine how that felt. I ruptured my planters fascia playing hockey 3 years ago. now I have a seperated shoulder which kind of bothers me a little when playing. I tell ya....drumming and playing hockey really don't mix! by the way...visited the link you provided. Really like your band. You guys sound great!

Thanks alot for the compliment. I love playing in this band. I can keep it simple and let the guys go off on their solos. I've been working on dynamics and trying to accent what's being played. Really working on communicating with the other guys as much as possible and making THEM sound good, you know?

Yeah, I spent eight years moving furniture (that's how I severed the Achilles), lifted weights hardcore for almost ten years, now I'm heavily into cycling (was a bike messenger in downtown Chicago for a year). I have aches and pains from past injuries all over my body now.

What the hell, you only live once, right? I plan on having fun, even if I am in pain! :)

Do you have any samples of your playing posted, by the way? Love to hear 'em!
