Does Anyone Own or Remember This Snare Drum?

drumhead101541 - Wed, 04/02/2008 - 16:55 | 5,710 views

The Zildjian/Noble&Cooley 380th Anniversary Snare Drum!

This drum is very rare already considering it came out in 2003, which isn't that long ago. It was made of Zildian's "Secret Alloy", and only 500 of these collectors items were sold world-wide. It is truly a work of art, and believe it or not, Bob Gatzen helped with the design of this drum. I'v seen these drums go up to at least $1500 on ebay alone!

Does anyone here actually own one of these, and if you do, does it sound good?

i have found that most snares the come out with a "gimmick" like this rarely sound good enough to warrant the larger than average price tag with very few exceptions. the paiste spirit of 2002 snares also really arent that great. but the lake superior snares from dw are killer as well as the pro-mark anniversary snare which can be heard in the new todd sucherman video.

My $1500 could have been spent and a decent pdp kit and even an good snare drum to go with it!

I played one that was owned by a studio and when miked it was next to impossible to get rid of the snare buzz.Looks awesome though but my $1500 would be better spent on a bell brass or copper snare.

I see those fairly often in stores in one incarnation or another. I recall them first coming out in the late-'80s or early-'90s, although not as a 380th Anniversary drum at that time.

I've never particularly liked the sound, I find it narrow and thin... maybe a 6.5" would have more body? But I've also never seen anyone use one, and I don't know anyone who owns one (even for its collectibility or display value.)
