Robert Sweet began his journey into drumming and Christianity by being born into a highly talented musical family. While in the 6th grade Robert, with his younger brother Michael entered their very first talent show. With Michael playing a bass guitar bigger than he was, and Robert performing on the drums standing up, the duo took first place in the contest and have never looked back since. Becoming saved at the age of 15, Robert felt the hand of God move in his life and along with Michael and guitarist Oz Fox, would forge the Christian metal band now known as Stryper. Since 1983, Stryper has sold millions of albums worldwide and achieved mainstream success in the secular world-all while staying true to their origins and faith. Stryper's third album, To Hell with the Devil, went platinum after spending three months on Billboard's album charts, eventually selling more than 2 million copies. In addition to being Stryper's most successful record, it was both the first contemporary Christian music and Christian metal album to achieve this feat. No longer standing up to play the drums, Robert now enjoys the comfort of a yellow & black custom drum throne. Now embarking on Styper's 25th anniversary tour, Drummer Connection sits down with Robert Sweet to discuss what the experience has been like and talk shop about his brand new custom drum kit from ddrum!
