the katalina series is awesome!! i have the katalina rock kit. Its more or less a bonham set up but it would be great for swing playing if you are into the old skool gene krupa, buddy rich playing because they were all about big drum sizes and cranked up tuning. i reckon youd really like the katalina series dude. they are the nicest drums i have ever used.

well how much are you looking to spend?
you can probably just look at their website and find something you can afford that appeals to you, then call the local dealer and ask how much for it.
you can also always just get a 5 piece and get some add on toms later. that's what I did.

Hey dude, saw your post:
You aren't going to get anything to just start with and then throw away, so first suggestion man, go big or don't go at all you know?
So if price isn't something you are worried about, you want to search for anything ranging up to 600$ all the way up to 2200$ for a kick ass kit that will last.
Gretch is sick for drums, that is for sure, and a Jazz kit is just about any typical drumkit you know?
So check this out, it is from the Catalina series and is pretty killer for what you are looking to do.
