This is a lesson on the Abakua, a rhythm that comes from an Afro-Cuban men's secret society. The history is as cool as the groove!

This is a groove trascribed from Akira Jimbo's Wasabi DVD.
It is a cool latin groove with a left foot son clave pattern. Link the the
sheet music Here: Sheet Music
Today's lesson takes a look at the basic Afro Cuban 6/8 groove. We're going to break this groove down by working on the hands first and then bringing in the kick drum to complete the groove. Anything involving triplets can be challenging and this groove is no exception. Don't forget to use the PDF download as a reference for the sticking. Enjoy!
I thought it would be cool to share a Mozambique Hand Pattern I came up with over the years. I’m not really sure how it evolved to what it is…but it sounds pretty cool! Enjoy!
Here’s a lesson that covers a few variations on the basic Songo Groove…..Enjoy!!

6/8 Afro Cuban Drum lesson. Hope it interests/helps some people !!
Here’s a great youtube Samba lesson from Stu Roberts. I really like how he breaks it down. A lot of good information here!!
In today's lesson we're going to take a close look at the Cascara Groove. I'll break each limb down individually first, and then we'll put them all together...enjoy!
For all you guys & gals out there just getting into Songo you'll want to check this out. In this lesson I break down the groove as it was explained to me years ago. I've also included an accenting exercise to help get your left hand stronger. Hope you enjoy!!
Here's Felipe giving a lesson on how he began applying the left foot clave to his playing...this is great stuff!! Enjoy!!
